Proctitis

Proctitis

Proctitis is inflammation of the anus and rectal lining. Symptoms can vary greatly but may include anal/rectal soreness, bleeding, painful bowel movements, sensation of incomplete elimination, spasms, cramping, and possible discharge. The condition may be temporary or chronic.

More About Proctitis

While proctitis has multiple causes, among the most common are STIs. Common causes of sexually transmitted proctitis include syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, anal warts (HPV), and herpes (HSV). Condom use during anal sex can help reduce the risk of STI-related procitis.
