Hojojitsu refers to an ancient Japanese martial art that is said to be the origin of shibari, the Japanese art of rope tying. Hojojitsu is part of a bigger curriculum of martial arts, bugei, or advanced jujitsu. It is taught within bugei; and includes the many techniques and materials used to restrain a person through rope tying.

and skill. It is a form of martial arts. It is designed to inflict
harm and should be approached carefully. Any mistake can cause
discomfort, at the very least. Worse case, incorrect rope typing can
result in damaged nerve and muscular systems.
